Abilene Country Club is a Private, 36 hole golf facility located in Abilene, Texas. Abilene Country Club has two 18-hole golf courses, The North Course and The South Course.
The Abilene Country Club, South Course first opened for play in 1978. The course was designed by Ron Garl.
The 7,018 yard Par 72 South Course was ranked by the Dallas Morning News as one of the best Golf Courses in the State of Texas. The Fairway course hosted PGA tours from 1979 through 1990. The Fairway Course is conveniently located less than 3 miles away from the Abilene Country Club main clubhouse and offers a professional golf pro shop to arrange for all your needs. The South Club was previously the Fairway Oaks Country Club.
This course hosted the Southwest Classic from 1981 through 1991. This long course has many sand bunkers spotted throughout its design, and there are water hazards on nine holes. One of the most difficult holes is #17, a 448-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot that must carry at least 200 yards over water to the fairway.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 7,018 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,532 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 3, a par-5 that plays to 585 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 165 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 6, a 415 yard par-4 challenge, and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The Abilene Country Club, South Course is # 1, a 404 yard par-4.

Since being purchased by the Abilene Country Club, this course has returned to the conditions of its glory days as a PGA venue. The greens are in great condition (some have been rebuilt) and the quality of the sand in the bunkers has recently been improved (I know from personal experience.) Anytime I have taken out of town guests to this course, they are amazed at the amount of water in play at this west Texas gem of a golf course.
